Over the course of the next two months, Mitten Prep Hoops will break down the top and potentially undervalued prospects from some of the state’s best teams.
The River Rats have only played seven games (6-1) thus far this season, but they have showcased the talent to make a long postseason run.
Huron features a solid seven-man rotation of juniors and seniors. They have solid team size and a star at point guard. A tough loss against Brother Rice was ratified by a 24-point win over Chelsea.
Here is a breakdown of some of their key recruits and contributors:
Macari Moore, 6-3, Jr. – Moore has an elite feel for the game. He can get to the basket, shoot outside shots and create for others. He uses a blend of strength and quickness to beat his defenders. Moore has a couple of D1 offers already. The junior class is pretty loaded, but Moore will almost definitely be a Mr. Basketball finalist next year.
Justin Latham, 6-6, Sr. – A big reason why Huron is an “all airport team”, which is a fancy way of saying they look the part. Latham is incredibly versatile with the ability to hit outside shots and clean up the glass with a savvy ability to pick up offensive boards. Extremely athletic which makes him tough to guard and score on. He’s been progressing on creating his own shot. College coaches will line the doors with he fully figures that out.
Mohammad Doubouya, 6-4, Sr. – One of the best rebounders and defenders in the state. Plays much bigger than his height and always seems to be around the ball. He has a soft touch around the rim with a solid mid-range jumper. Pretty much a true post, even though his lack of height would likely push him out on the win in college. Tough, physical player who displays great positioning.
Jackson Keefer, 6-4, Sr. – Confident outside shooter with a very quick release and range well beyond the arc. Great size for his position which also helps on defense. Keefer doesn’t really handle the ball, which makes him more of a true shooting guard, but he’s a great piece on a team with title aspirations.
Christian Brown, 5-11, Sr. – Quick guard who can get through a press and set up the offense with confidence. He can hit outside shots, but doesn’t really attack the rim much. Quick hands on defense allow him to force turnovers and set up transition baskets. Brown is the type of guard every winning team seems to have.
Jayden Keefer, 6-3, Jr. – Another knock-down shooter with a pure stroke. It’s always nice to produce some offense off the bench, and Jayden can usually provide a spark. Needs to be a little more aggressive, but he could be in line for a huge senior year once he’s a full-time starter. Huron has a lot of guys in the 6-3 to 6-6 range, which gives them versatility on both ends of the court.
Kaleb Brown, 6-3, Jr. – A player on the rise after an impressive summer. A long-strider who can get in the paint in a hurry. Brown needs a bit of refinement, but has the potential to be a senior breakout candidate. For now, he’s another athletic piece to a great team.
