BCAM Team Camp: 2027/2028 Stock Risers

ALLENDALE – It was a basketball bonanza this weekend at Grand Valley State University, as BCAM hosted a tremendous boys high school basketball summer camp event.

For those wondering, yes, Michigan State head basketball coach Tom Izzo was in attendance both days, and he wasn’t just watching five-star recruit Trey McKenny.

With games being played continuously on seven different courts and in three different sections of the building, it was impossible to see every team and player. So, if you don’t see a player or team mentioned in my stories, it might just be because I unfortunately didn’t get to see them play.

Here are the top stock risers from BCAM Team Camp for the 2027/28 class; separated by position.

Dominic Wing, 6-4, Cadillac 2028 – Saw him during the first game of the weekend on the main court. He immediately caught my eye as yet another, tall, rangy prospect to come out of Cadillac. Where do they get all these guys? I could easily see him growing another couple inches. Wing appeared to be a confident long-range shooter, poised and able to create his own shot. I was wondering who would replace Charlie Howell in the lineup, and Wing might just be the guy.

Adam Coats, 6-2, Belleville 2027 – I usually try not to do player comparisons, so as not to pigeon-hole a player. However, I had to wipe off my glasses when watching Coats play to double check and make sure he wasn’t Cassius Winston. The only discernable difference I saw between Coats and Winston entering their sophomore seasons was that Coats is two inches taller. Coats is very crafty and a great finisher. He used his frame to bully defenders into the paint, where he showed equal adeptness as finishing or dishing into the post. He’s going to be a fun prospect to watch the next three years.

Tyler Hunter, 6-8, Detroit King 2027 – It’s rare to find a true post player in high school basketball these days, but Hunter is a force in the paint. He has a strong, solid frame and pretty good footwork, although that is a spot he could improve. He displayed nice touch around the basket and a willingness to call for the ball. As he gets more comfortable playing at this level, I’d like to see him dominate the glass a little more. Huge upside, especially potentially in the Big Ten, where post players are still in high demand.

Seth Hahnenberg, 6-6, Lansing Catholic 2027 – I was really impressed with his overall skillset. He spent some time at point guard and looked completely in his element doing it. Very athletic with all the tools. He hit some outside shots and had a quick first step getting to the basket. A little more added strength and polish could send his recruiting out of this orbit.

Adam Tribul, 6-0, Brother Rice 2028 – I saw some social media buzz on Tribul heading into the weekend, so I was eager to see him play. He didn’t disappoint against East Lansing, knocking down at least four 3-pointers off the bench in the game. Tribul gets his shot off quickly and doesn’t have a second thought about firing away. He could be a 1,000-point scorer.

Cater Wade, 6-0, Grandville 2027 – One of the few true guards on Grandville’s extremely tall roster. Wade is a physical player who also displays good quickness. He’s a true point guard who can also score in a variety of ways. He’s poised and never seems to panic. Grandville is a sleeper team this season, and they go as Wade goes. It will be interesting to see how his game progresses over the next three years.

Christian Cast, 6-2, Detroit Country Day 2027- Country Day is officially back on the map. Cast will likely end up the best player DCD has had since the Kurt Keener days. Cast is an explosive athlete, quality shooter and quick with the ball in his hands. He’s been putting on a consistently impressive scoring display all summer. Cast has all the tools to become an elite prospect.

Kooper Richards, 5-11, Grosse Pointe South 2027- Richards is part of an impressive guard trio at GP South. He handled point guard duties in the game I watched with great control over the offense. Richards is still pretty slight, so he will keep getting better as he gains strength. He was one of many players on the team who looked dangerous from 3-point range.

Kingston Thomas, 6-3, East Lansing 2027 – East Lansing has an embarrassment of riches on its roster, and Thomas looks poised to continue that momentum. Thomas picked up a D1 offer over the weekend after flashing elite athleticism and a calm demeanor. Thomas looks like he could play point guard eventually. I didn’t see him shoot much outside, but his touch around the basket was impeccable. Shots will be hard to come by with so much upper-classmen talent on the roster, but Thomas proved he could be a valued fourth scorer for the Trojans.
