Western Michigan building insanely good 2025 basketball class

Michigan high school basketball summer camps are taking place all across the state, and top players are making their college commitments.

Western Michigan University, located in the heart of Kalamazoo, is coached by former beloved Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens, who was known for his stellar recruiting at East Lansing.

Stephens has continued his recruiting prowess at WMU, landing three top 2025 Michigan prospects in the last two weeks.

Whitehall senior Camden Fall Thompson (6-6) was the first 2025 star to pick the Broncos, also committing to their football team. Thompson is uber athletic and can play almost any position. He has produced numerous 20-point, 20-rebound games throughout his high school career.

Western then snagged South Christian star guard Carson Vis (6-4), who will join David Kool as former Sailors and Broncos. Vis is a polished guard who specializes at getting to the basket and finishing through traffic. He’s a great dunker and solid outside shooter.

One day after securing Vis, Western and Stephens then gained a commitment from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s star point guard Sharrod Barnes (6-2). Barnes has been labeled among the best defenders in the state since his freshman season. He has since added a multi-faceted offensive game, including an ever improving outside shot. Barnes helped lead the Eaglets to a state title last season.

After torching the nets at Grand Valley over the weekend, Grand Rapids Northview star Brady Swartz (6-7) visited Western’s campus after they gave him an offer a couple months ago. If Western acquires his abilities as well, it could be a legendary class for the Broncos.

The Broncos have only played in four NCAA Tournaments and haven’t appeared since 2014. Stephens certainly has the program in the right direction, and he’s doing it the old-fashioned way: recruiting great in-state high school talent.
