Michigan HS Basketball: Macari Moore may be MSU’s missing link

Ann Arbor Huron senior point guard Macari Moore enjoyed a prolific high school career that ultimately made him a nationally-ranked prospect.

After a long commitment to Iowa State, Moore de-committed from the Cyclones last month, setting off a bombshell during the state finals.

Moore (6-3) is a strong, aggressive point guard who plays a similar game to current Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears. Moore is a better shooter, and is more aggressive, overall, as a scorer. But the two have a similar body type and skillset.

In the age of constant transfers and NIL money sending players all over the country, college basketball has started to look more like a minor league to the NBA. Moore is a three-star recruit who might not start from Day 1.

Michigan State, led by legendary coach Tom Izzo, remains one of the few programs still trying to collect freshmen they can mold for a potential four-year career in green and white.

Moore has a game-ready body and demeanor, but he might need to refine his skills a bit on both ends of the court.

With the Spartans losing three of their top four backcourt players, Moore might be a late signing with upside to help balance MSU’s roster.

Since his freshman year, Moore has consistently been ranked as a top-five player in Michigan’s 2025 class. Consistent and competitive, he has the size and passion Izzo usually looks for.

Moore was a Mr. Basketball candidate this year after averaging just under 20 points per game as a senior and leading his River Rats squad to the state semifinals in 2024.

According to 247 Recruiting, Moore has offers from Iowa State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Central Michigan. More could certainly be on the way.
