Does Davier White Make Kalamazoo Central D1 State Title Favorites?

It’s an increasingly rare occurrence for the state of Michigan to have a Division 1 college prospect transfer into the state.

But that’s exactly what happened this fall when nationally-ranked junior wing Davier White (6-5) enrolled at Kalamazoo Central.

The Maroon Giants already boasted a formidable group, led by recent Oakland University commit Isaiah Theodile (6-8).

Now, K-Central will feature two D1 prospects on their roster to go along with several other next-level players.

White has D1 offers from Eastern Kentucky, Alcorn State and Youngstown State, and with his size/skill dynamic more should be on the horizon. White will share the wing with seniors T.J. Terrentine (6-3) and Jonathan Edwards (6-3), both of whom have picked up college offers this summer.

At point guard, the Maroon Giants will likely start fast-rising Cameron Bean (6-0), a quick and heady player excellent in transition.

K-Central also boasts a deep bench, including Taveon Vaughn (6-2), Jeramy Buford (6-6), Savion Gardner (6-3) and Curtis Whitfield (6-0), all of whom would start on a lot of rosters throughout the state.

It’s been a while since K-Central has reached the Breslin Center, however, they did advance to the state quarterfinals as recently as 2022.

With Theodile and Buford dominating the post, White and company on the wing, and a host of shifty point guard options, this team is built for a long run.

K-Central has a pretty tame road to the Breslin up until the regional final, where it would likely face defending state champion East Lansing or Lansing Waverly.

From there, K-Central would likely face Detroit Catholic Central or Ann Arbor Huron in the quarterfinals.

Other teams such as Brother Rice, East Lansing, Rockford, GR Northview and Detroit King will be among the favorites to lift the trophy at the end of the season, but Kalamazoo Central now has to be mentioned among that group.

Whether K-Central is able to reach the state final remains to be seen. Either way, it’s exciting to finally add a D1 prospect to the state instead of continuously losing them.
