After the Halloween fun, it’s time to start the countdown to Michigan high school basketball season.
Less than a month away from game action, there remains plenty of intrigue in the offseason.
Here are our top 25 unsigned seniors:
- Keyshawn Summerville, 5-11, Lansing Sexton – Four D1 offers and likely holding out for the right fit. Electric with and without the ball but needs to add some muscle to reach full potential at the next level.
- Carl Thompson, 6-4, Grand Rapids Christian – Smooth operator with a gliding step and dependable outside shot. A little underrated with just three D1 offers. Could be a star and a real steal.
- Keandre Burtin, 6-6, Warren Fitzgerald – The offers are starting to roll in. Likely an eventual mid-major signee with positional versatility and elite athletic upside.
- Jovaan Daniels, 5-11, Hudsonville – Have people just not seen this kid play? He’s a bucket who could/should flirt with Mr. Basketball nominee status. Consistent and reliable; D2 college coaches need to watch him play high school ball.
- Braylon Frantz, 6-1, St. Clair – Freak athlete with solid all-around game. Plays much bigger than his size and with confidence. Offers are on the horizon with more exposure.
- Kyle Brown, 6-3, Forest Hills Northern – Getting D3 offers right now, Brown has the elite shooting and smooth athleticism to play D2. Maybe Davenport or Grand Valley will get on board.
- Trevor Smith, 6-7, Brother Rice – Had some D1 offers early – not sure if those still stand. The more recent D2 offers could be better fits. Good all-around but might not have the athleticism-skill-height combo for D1.
- Cole Charter, 6-4, Clarkston – I always picture him as a star on some of those 20th century Iowa teams. Big point guard with tremendous feel for the game. He just currently doesn’t stand out in any one way. D2/D3 tweener prospect.
- Amari Lewis, 6-5, Portage Northern – Explosive athlete great at getting to the rim and finishing with authority. Probably a consistent jump shot away from becoming an elite prospect. His D2 offer from Central State could be a good fit.
- Kendreyas White, 6-6, Flint Carman-Ainsworth – He looked like the teams’s best player at times last season, which ended with a trip to the Breslin. So where are the offers?
- Ja’kobe Louris, 6-4, Auburn Hills Avondale – Has quietly risen every year, and now finds himself with D2 offers. Still haven’t figured out where his best position is moving forward. Could develop into a Manny Harris-type player.
- Andrew Caldwell, 6-4, Flint Powers – Tremendous shooter with great height and length on the wing. He can really spread a defense out and looked comfortable as the team’s lead scorer this summer. Only D3 offers for now.
- Quinton Swanson, 6-4, Portage Northern – With so much D2 college talent in the state, guys like Swanson seem to be flying under the radar. Could be a late signer who picks up a D2 offer and latches on.
- Cyrus Goins, 6-6, Wayne Memorial – Savvy wing with unlimited length. Good, not great, shooter. He’s a good passer from the wing and developing his overall skills. Saginaqw Valley offered this summer.
- Xavier Pendergrass, 6-6, Lansing Waverly – Looks like a Big Ten player at times. The very next game he might be invisible. Consistency as a senior could see a Yante Maten-like recruiting rise.
- Steven Jones, 6-2, Detroit MLK – Good at getting to the basket as a strong lead guard. Needs to work on his shot and consistency. Recruiting has been quieter than expected. Could be a JUCO to D1 guy.
- Milo Barangan, 6-6, Mona Shores – Was really impressed with his size-to-skill ratio as a big wing with a nice shot. Lots of D3 interest, but he could definitely hang athletically at the D2 level.
- Kaidon Mourning, 6-1, Ann Arbor Huron – Late-bloomer and fast-riser who looked energized and explosive this summer. Love his tenacity and energy. Just needs a jump shot.
- Brayden Lee, 6-6, Macomb Dakota – Solid post presence and steady defender. Won’t wow you with athleticism but makes smart plays and does the dirty work. Mostly D3 and NAIA offers at this point.
- Braeden Flynn, 5-10, Harbor Springs – 1,000-point scorer up north in one of the most beautiful cities in Michigan. His jump shot is just as pretty. Lake Superior State offer seems like a perfect fit.
- Chib Amaezechi, 6-6, Plainwell – Freak athlete; will throw down some dunks reminiscent of Zion Williamson’s high school days. Solid ball-handler for his height, but very raw all-around skillset. D1 upside for sure.
- Derek Thomas, 6-3, Lansing Waverly – Undersized post with tremendous feel and low-block skills. Will likely be a D3 star, but his height and smaller wingspan limit his upside.
- Nehvir Njoku, 6-3, Macomb Dakota – Had an adverturous summer that ultimately ended up at Dakota. Big, strong point guard who knows how to control tempo. Needs to add some quickness and urgency.
- Christopher Childs, 6-3, Fraser – Looks the part of a college combo guard. Refined skills with improving shooting range. Might be flying under the radar due to where he plays, but he has the game to match players higher on this list.
- Sebastian Thrower, 6-1, Cass Tech – He’s a quick, smart point guard with a nice feel for the game. Pushes the tempo well and has some 3-point shooting upside. Will have lots of college coaches watching while playing alongside nationally ranked Stevie Hall.
