EAST LANSING – The 2025-26 boys high school basketball season capped with one of the most exciting Breslin Center weekends in recent memory.
All four state champions were public schools, a rare feat in Michigan with some true powerhouse private school basketball programs.
Here are our three all-Breslin teams:
Team 1
Grady Eklund, 6-3, Pewamo Westphalia – The Northwood University commit scored 27 points in the semifinal and 26 in the state final, cementing his legacy as one of the best scorers in state history, eclipsing 2,000 for his career.
Lewis Lovejoy, 5-10, ATAP – Scoring 41 points in the state finals is always incredible, especially against a team known for stingy defense. The sophomore is among the best in his class, and has the explosiveness and shooting to captivate audiences.
KJ Torbert, 6-2, East Lansing – The Bowling Green commit and reigning Mr. Basketball scored 23 points in a win over Brother Rice, including the game-winning shot. He then tallied 28 points in a close loss to Rockford in the final.
Connor Stevens, 6-5, Concord – The Trine University commit scored 15 points with an incredible 19 rebounds in the final, helping his team hoist the ultimate trophy for the first time in school history. Had 16 points with 10 rebounds in the state semifinal, cementing his status as a 2026 Breslin legend.
Tristian Comer, 6-6, Freeland – The MSU football commit gave Spartans fans something to cheer about in a different sport, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds to beat Unity Christian in the state final. He added 20 points and 13 rebounds in a slight upset victory in the semifinal over Romulus Summit.
Team 2
Dylan Gross, 5-9, Rockford
Jace Opoku, 6-0, Rockford
Josh Bascom, 6-4, Rockford
Eli Wolfe, 6-2, Rockford
Jake Bascom, 6-6, Rockford
No one on this team put up especially gaudy stats, but the entire starting lineup made several big plays on both ends of the court to help Rockford earn a Division 1 state title. All five starters finished the season as they started – playing team basketball and sharing the accolades.
Team 3
Jordan McDaniel, 5-9, Brother Rice – The freshman sensation sent shockwaves throughout the state with an electrifying 31 points in the state semifinal. He dazzled with long 3-pointers and quickness that would make the Roadrunner jealous. Will he stay in Michigan all four years?
Wilson Huckeby, 6-4, Freeland – Scored 12 points with six rebounds in a gritty state final – he also handled the ball to help seal the win. He scored 22 points in the state semifinal, and will now ply his trade at Saginaw Valley State.
Trent Piggott, 6-5, Pewamo-Westphalia – He scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a clutch state final performance. Scored 10 points with 14 rebounds in the semifinal, proving his value on a well-rounded state champion squad.
Tyree Anthony, 6-3, East Lansing – He looked really smooth as a secondary scoring option behind Torbert and earned an offer from Saginaw Valley after dropping 14 points in a great semifinal performance.
Logan Farmer, 6-3, Pewamo-Westphalia – The talented sophomore scored 19 points with four assists in the state semifinal, and he added 14 points with five rebounds and four assists in the state final. Very intriguing player with D1 upside.
