With warm weather, spring AAU season is under way with many of Michigan’s most talented high school basketball players in action.
Here are some players raising their recruiting stock this spring:
Nate Sidney, 6-2, AA Huron – Always been impressed with his game. He might be able to play point guard at the next level as a bowling ball athlete with tons of strength and skill. Certainly, D2 upside if he can continue to gain consistency with his outside shot.
Logan Morrish, 6-4, Hartland – Proving he’s more than just a shooter, Morrish has routinely led a good squad in scoring this spring. Tall, skilled wings don’t grow on trees, and he could see the same type of recruitment as Freeland star Wilson Huckeby who is headed to Saginaw Valley State.
Alex Armstrong, 6-6, Hudsonville – Oozes potential every time he takes the court. His calm demeanor and smooth athleticism bely his competitiveness and ability to damage a defense from all levels of the court. Turning into a true D1 prospect.
Jaxson Tabor, 6-3, East Kentwood – Has played the role of 6th man and glue guy on East Kentwood’s immensely talented roster, but he’s proving this spring that he can be the star of a good team and score from all three levels. Will be one of many Falcons in the D2 recruiting hunt.
Heyden Jeremie, 6-5, Grandville – Jeremie was one of the best freshmen in the state last season, and he’s been even more dominant offensively this spring. Elite upside, especially if he eclipses 6-7. Very strong physically with an ever-improving all-around game.
Peyton Merlington, 6-4, BC Pennfield – Very versatile player with a strong frame and nice jump shot. Really like his overall skillset and his work ethic. He could start out in D3, but definitely has D2 upside as he continues to become more comfortable creating his own looks.
Connor Brown, 6-6, North Farmington – Brown has gone from intriguing prospect, to full-fledge D1 must have this spring, already picking up two D1 offers. His size, strength and shooting ability are unrivaled in the state.
Ian Curtis, 6-6, Lansing Eastern – Long, lanky junior who is just scratching his overall potential. Will likely be a wing in college, and still has the upside to ascend into a D1 college athlete. This is a player and team quickly on the rise.
Zack Pearson, 6-3, Fenton – Pearson has been under the radar most of his career, but is shining this spring with consistent offensive performances. A good-sized guard with increasing skill, he could be a late bloomer in for a big senior season and a quick rise up the recruiting rankings.
Darren Pope Jr., 6-1, Lansing Waverly – One of many talented guards on Waverly, Pope appears to be the best of the bunch. He’s a tremendous shooter and can create his own shot, which suggests he could be a point guard at the next level.
