Here are our top unsigned seniors who made a big leap this summer:
Kordell Robinson, 6-4, River Rouge – Has gone from a talented, but mostly quiet player standing just over 6-2, to a formidable D1 prospect standing in the 6-4, 6-5 range. Robinson is silky smooth as a combo guard and has improved his outside shot. I’m still waiting to see if his AAU success can translate to more stringent defenses in high school, but he has definitely already taken a steady leap as a prospect.
Ace Walters, 6-0, Clarkston – A pure bucket getter who plays with swagger and confidence. A stronger, taller lead guard than Foster Loyer was, and has developed into the type of player who can score 25 points against anyone. Very impressed with his game and playing demeanor. Would definitely take him on any D2 or mid-major in the country.
Andrew Kenyi, 6-10, East Kentwood – Most analysts would probably put his teammate Samuel Makuag on this type of list, but I’ve been far more impressed with Kenyi’s overall development against high school defenses. Kenyi can handle the ball a bit, shoot outside some and is a terror defensively around the rim. He’s versatile and unique as a prospect who just needs to add some playing strength to become a better area rebounder.
Nate Tandy, 6-3, Rochester – Sweet-shooting lefty who looked physically strong this summer with a skilled overall offensive game. Early in his career, he was known more as a shooter, but he has definitely taken a step forward as a player who could be a potent college scorer and playmaker.
Cameron Crowder, 6-4, Forest Hills Northern – Strong point guard with a solid frame and great instincts. Has become more aggressive getting to the basket and has always had a nice outside shot. Great vision helps mitigate any quickness issues. Should flurt with 15-20 points and five-plus assists per game this season.
Brayden Williams, 6-2, GR Northview – Looks poised to successfully step into the lead scoring role vacated by Austin Peay commit Cam Ryans. Williams is a smooth ball-handler with a great outside and mid-range jumper. He knows how to find open lanes, setting up scoring opportunities for himself or teammates. Looks like a sure-fire D2 college prospect who just needs to improve his overall foot speed.
Nate Sidney, 6-2, AA Huron – Thick guard with tremendous scoring instincts. Quick off the dribble and explosive getting to the basket. Can also knock down some shots. He could end up a point guard at the next level, and a very capable lead scorer on a team with a deep tournament run in mind.
Malik Bush, 6-4, Divine Child – Long, athletic wing who can score in bunches and in an variety of ways. Bush has the make-up of potentially being a D1 college player; not sure he will reach that out of high school, but he’s definitely taken the leap from potential to star player.
Seth Hahnenberg, 6-7, Lansing Catholic – Saw him play a couple times as a sophomore and he was really raw. Over this summer, he was much more comfortable creating his own shots; also showed confidence dunking over people on a couple occasions. Would definitely be on an all-airport team as he looks like an NFL tight end. Underrated prospect who could see his recruitment skyrocket at any moment.
Edgar Hubbard, 6-3, Detroit Edison – I honestly had not seen him play prior to this summer and was shocked how off-the-radar he was for how impressively he played. Confident floor general with great length and overall offensive skills. Three-level scorer who also displayed great leadership. Both DEPSA and Hubbard could be major breakout candidates this season.
Ransom Thomas, 6-3, Cass Tech – Has gone from 3-point shooting specialist to complete combo guard, which has been rewarded with D1 and D2 offers. Great off the dribble and strong in possession. Could form an unrivaled, dynamic duo with Stevie Hall this season, one that will be very difficult to topple.
Arber Ljajcaj, 6-9, L’Anse Creuse North – Tall, lanky player similar to a Chet Holmgren-like build. Great outside shooter who has added enough muscle and willingness to also play in the post. He’s been collecting college offers in masses this summer and could still become a D1 prospect as a late-bloomer who oozes upside.
Prince Ravenna El, 6-2, Roseville – Confident, capable guard who can run the offense or play off the ball. Great shooter who also plays with a high I.Q. Has always been a second scorer, but depending on Roseville’s roster makeup this season, he might get a chance to prove he can succeed as the focal point of an offense.
